Hurricane Beryl continues to break various weather records, which this BMS Group Insight will highlight. We will also provide an initial look at the impacts it has had in Grenada, St. Vincent, and the small islands in between, including Carriacou. This update also explores the potential impacts of Beryl on Jamaica and the U.S. The long-range forecast indicates an increased likelihood of potential impacts that could pull Beryl north closer to the U.S. coastline early next week. This is in part due to the evaluation of the weakening upper-level ridge of high pressure of the Southeast and a short wave trough of low pressure. For more details on Beryl, click the link below. A Huge Thanks to Lee Gorodetsky for Highlighting the Hard Truths of Florida’s Property Insurance Market I want to take a moment to personally thank Lee Gorodetsky for cutting through the noise and addressing the two “R’s” that are critical to Florida’s property insurance crisis: Roofs and Reinsurance. His deep understanding of the market and his willingness to educate others on these complex issues is exactly what this industry—and Florida property owners—desperately need. The reality is this: litigation reform alone won’t solve Florida’s insurance challenges. Without tackling roof replacements and skyrocketing reinsurance costs, the root causes of the state’s ongoing property insurance issues will persist. Lee is absolutely right to point out that these weren’t addressed during the special session in December 2022—and the lack of action is still costing Florida homeowners. Let’s break it down: • Reinsurance is the backbone of the insurance industry. It’s what allows carriers to remain solvent and take on risk, but Florida’s reinsurance market has been under immense strain. Without meaningful solutions here, costs will continue to remain high for homeowners. • Roofs are another key driver. Replacement coverage for aging roofs without proper reform invites abuse and leads to unsustainable payouts. Moving toward policies that reflect actual cash value for roofs—or alternative solutions— would continue to stabilize the market and ultimately benefit both insurers and homeowners. Lee’s passion for educating realtors, first-time homebuyers, HOAs, and industry professionals is exactly what’s needed to bring these issues to light and drive real solutions. His willingness to speak up and offer actionable insights is a much-needed breath of fresh air in a space where understanding often feels elusive.
